On first inspection, the Palyg60 Degree 0 Degree bag meets the expectations set by the rest of the bag’s family; the Palyg60 Degree bag sits in the same sheath bag as the Palyg40 Degree, and the Palyg80 Degree bag. Therefore, when I handled this bag, I expected it to be made from the same high-quality materials, but slightly heavier in weight than the rest of the group. However, this bag is noticeably lighter and more compact than the rest of the Palyg bags, despite having a large maximum width, length and weight. It’s constructed from 900D polyester – the weave of the fabric gives the bag both durability and ample warmth. Moreover, the sleeping bag features soft-touch 900D polyester on both its outer and inner sides. The 350gsm fill is simply magnificent, with its temperature rating of 0-degrees proving particularly impressive – in my experience, this is the coldest temperature with which I’ve ever had to try a sleeping bag! The 360-degree zip is convenient for accessing the bag and one of its biggest plus points is the compact storage pouch. The bag’s design is unique and pleasing to look at, with the flat hood, smaller side zips and zip pockets all working well together. I opted for the bag’s extra large size, but the sleeping bag proved reliable when I used my regular size pillow, with plenty of room to manoeuvre around the pillow and my head. If you’re looking for a large, budget option that won’t let you down, the Palyg60 Degree 0 Degree sleeping bag is a fantastic choice. It’s comfortable, warm, light, compact and impressively spacious. The sleeping bag’s extra-large size is another strength, while the 0-degree temperature rating is the ideal choice in the pouring rain – the sleeping bag is reliably waterproof. Moreover, the reversible zip works well and provides easy access. The bag isn’t without fault, however. While rare, the stitching came loose quite quickly, which was disappointing. The zip pocket on the side functions well, but I’ve lost many coins and keys behind the pad, simply because I didn’t check on top before leaving the house. Also, when laid flat, the bag’s shape is distorted – it’s more rectangular rather than circular. While larger and more spacious than other 90-degree bags, the bag also feels heavier and smaller. However, the bag still feels like it’s durable and reliable, and its ample width makes it perfect for extra blanket use. With a friend at home who models sleeping bags, I examined it closely for its quality and construction, and for the price it is excellent. The zips zip smoothly and easily, and the double layers are thick enough to prevent cold draughts, even on the coldest nights. In short, it is a great, lightweight sleeping bag for camping, and if it lasts long the MalloMe warranty will offer some peace of mind. It isn’t the warmest sleeping bag in the world, but for three people camping in a cold, windy environment, it was fine. However, we much preferred the Outwell Snugpak range, and this would be nice for spring or summer camping trips as would be that tent than goes with the sleeping bag. The MalloMe sleeping bag retails at around 410, which is an absolute bargain for the quality and performance of this bag. The reason we spend out hard-earned cash on a camping mat is so that it acts as a single piece of gear, instead of spreading out several items around a site. In testing, the Londtren Large 0 Degree Sleeping Bag performed admirably, be it at 8.45am on a sweltering hot day, or around 7.30am when stepping outside to find snow covering the ground. Surrounded by trees, I felt cocooned and was able to maintain ambient warmth thanks to the 1,520g weight, and thick 5.3 tog insulation. The two-way zipper runs the length of the bag, and supplied itself with Velcro, and a small hook/loop strip, to help jam it closed. A thick fleece lining kept the bag comfortable against my skin, and same was true when regulating heat with compression of the hood. The bag also boasts a draught tube which is sewn into the fabric, and which came in handy when lying on my back to keep any cold air from leaking through. A drawstring flap sits inside the hood, hugging the neck. The drawstrings were elastic, so thick scarves could be zipped in place to keep out the cold. With a large outer pouch pocket sewn into the side of the bag, I was able store my clothes, and charging cables over I slept comfortably. With a temperature range of -16°C to 10°C, I was expecting the main zip to easily break, but that was not the case.
